Requirements for submissions to Norsk Gestalttidsskrift

Please read the following. By submitting your contribution you also accept the following conditions.

Copyrights

The author has copyright to his/her article. However, for publication in Norsk Gestaltidsskrift, it is required that the author grants the journal the right to publish. This means that the journal receives a license to publish the article. If it is relevant to translate the article for publication in English, the author must give his/her approval.

It is a prerequisite for publishing original texts that they have not already been published elsewhere, or that they will be published elsewhere within six months. It is possible to apply for permission to publish translations of the article in foreign journals before this deadlin

In the event of later publication, it must be stated that the text has been published in Norsk Gestaltidsskrift, year and issue.

Technical requirements

Please send your contribution to redaksjonen@gestalt.no . The text must be written in Word format, with font Times Roman, font size 12 and 1.5 line spacing. For literature references and bibliographies, please follow APA 7. See guidelines at http://www.kildekompasset.no. We encourage the use of footnotes as little as possible. The journal uses three levels of headings: title/subtitle, section title and subtitle.

Scientific articles should not exceed 7000 words. This includes a short summary of approximately 150 words, six keywords, bibliography and any footnotes.

Models, tables and other graphics must be inserted as one image, using “Insert”/”Image”/”From file”. All images you use must be sent as an attachment. The editorial team wants images in jpg format. Permission for image publication must be included. If you are unsure about the format, resolution and rights, please contact the editorial team.

Before publication, the author must submit a short text introducing himself/herself, which must include name, title, any institutional affiliation and email address, which will be published together with the article.

The editorial team reserves the right to determine the layout and is also responsible for the final design of the text before publication. The journal carries out linguistic processing in the form of language cleaning and proofreading before publication. We strive for consistency in language and expression and follow current norms for spelling.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is not permitted. The author is responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is an original work and that all sources (data, text, figures, images, etc.) are correctly cited and referenced. The author is personally responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright holder (e.g., for illustrations and photographs) prior to submission.

In cases of self-plagiarism — the reuse of one’s own previously published texts — the author must ensure that their own work is correctly cited. It is up to the editor to assess whether the extent of text reuse is acceptable in each individual case.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence must be used with caution and in a transparent manner. If AI has been used, this must be stated in the manuscript. Any use of AI in analysis must be described in the methodology section. AI cannot be listed as a co-author, and the author holds full responsibility for the content.

Who can write for us?

Norsk Gestalttidsskrift (The Norwegian Gestalt Journal) is a scientific journal that publish research articles by professional researchers, lecturers at educational instititues and gestalt therapists doing research on clinical practice. We also publish other articles – essays, interviews, book reviews. And we welcome student research articles, usually a revised version of exam papers.

Below are some procedural information for researchers and students wanting to publish in Norsk gestalttidsskrift.

Peer review procedures

Submitted scientific articles accepted by the editor will be reviewed by two independent peers who have both Gestalt expertise and scientific doctoral expertise. The peers are selected by the editor based on their knowledge of the actual field of study covered in the article.

Peer reviews are conducted in such a way that neither author nor peer is informed of each other’s identity.

The primary purpose of the review is to provide constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement of the submitted manuscript. The editor has access to the review and also has the final say on when an article is sufficiently refined for publication.

Criteria for review of peer-reviewed articles

The criteria below are intended as support the peers and are also considered as a guide to the authors:
Is the content relevant to Norsk Gestalttidsskrift’s profile and target audience?

  • Does the article demonstrate independence and originality?
  • Are the issues clearly formulated and discussed in the article?
  • Are the theory, method, findings and analysis/discussion clearly presented?
  • Is the understanding and use of professional concepts of high quality?
  • Is the ethical process in the research work transparent?
  • Do the references follow APA 7 and is the article written in a language and with a composition that makes it accessible to the reader.

Based on these assessments, the peer provides written feedback to the editor. The assessment results in one of the following four recommendations:

  • Approved. The article can be accepted as it is with some suggestions for improvements.
  • Need for minor revision. The article must be revised before publication with a description of which changes are necessary.
  • Need for major revision. The article must be revised before publication with a description of which changes are necessary.
  • The article is rejected. If the article is completely inadequate in one or more of the areas above, it is rejected. The peer justifies his conclusion, but does not explain how the article can be revised.

Conflicts of interest

Research should be transparent, reliable and impartial. Personal relationships or interests (e.g. related to finances, career, friendship and family) can affect one’s objectivity and professional judgment. Authors are responsible for disclosing any conflicts of interest when submitting a manuscript. This includes funding of the study, affiliation with an organization, etc.

Assessment of conflicts of interest also applies to the editor, editorial board and colleagues. These must refrain from assessing individual manuscripts in the event of conflicts of interest. Colleagues are themselves responsible for disclosing any conflicts of interest when requesting to assess a manuscript.

Research ethics

The study described in research articles must have been conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. If the study has been assessed by the Regional Committees for Medical and Health Research (REK) or registered with the SIKT-Kunnskapssektorens service provider, or other bodies, this must be described and the reference number stated. If the study has not been assessed by these bodies, this must also be stated and justified.

Ethical considerations beyond research ethics should, where appropriate, be discussed. Be extra careful where the research subject is in vulnerable situations or may be exposed to stigmatization.
For more information on research ethics, see the Norwegian Research Ethics Guidelines for Social Sciences and Humanities (NESH).

For students

The editorial team is happy to provide writing guidance to students who wish to work on an article or essay from their student thesis from the various studies at NGI. If you have a thesis you would like to rework, you are welcome to contact the editorial team.

If you are unsure whether your text meets the criteria for manuscript submission, you are welcome to contact the editorial team for advice and guidance on how to proceed with your text.

The journal also welcomes manuscripts from related fields. It is a condition that the topic is relevant to the journal’s profile and target group. It is not a requirement that the author adheres to the Gestalt discipline.
